- We received new (6.0FW) Hayes Business 288 modems. In our
- environment the Hayes is used to call and receive calls
- from a USR Courier. We experienced problems connecting
- after a series of calls in/out to/from the Hayes. The
- problem was one of not being able to negotiate the V.42
- and V.42bis. The solution seems to be setting S54=32 on
- the USR side. This disables 3429 symbol rate. What
- are the consequences of disabling this symbol rate? Is
- there a better way to fix the problem? What does symbol rate
- mean?
